Halloween songs for kids: playlist and dance ideas

Looking for Halloween songs for kids? Start with Hi Ha Halloween, Gruwelijk eng and Zombiedans if your group enjoys Dutch songs. Below are my playlist, thirteen music ideas and a short dance activity. A little spooky fun is welcome; feeling frightened is not the aim.

Listen to the Halloween playlist

Open my Halloween playlist on Spotify. Save it to your library, preview your chosen versions and test your speaker. The playlist mixes styles and ages, so make your own selection before the party.

Choose songs for your age group

For preschool and younger primary children, try a short section of Hi Ha Halloween or Zombiedans. Show simple movements first: stomp like a monster, float like a ghost and freeze when the music stops. Keep the lights on and let children watch before joining in.

For ages 8 to 12, try making a skeleton dance to Spooky Scary Skeletons. Preview the effects in Thriller and assess its video separately. A song that one child finds funny may frighten another.

For mixed school or after-school groups, start with the youngest children in mind. Alternate dancing with quieter moments. Keep a familiar cheerful song ready, and make joining in optional.

Thirteen Halloween songs and spooky party tracks

This is a selection to choose from, not a fixed running order. Check lyrics, effects and tempo first. Several tracks are in Dutch.

  1. Blijwin® - Hi Ha Halloween. My own Halloween song for singing and dancing.
  2. Kinderen voor Kinderen - Gruwelijk eng. A Dutch singalong option.
  3. Kinderkoor Klavertje Vier - De Spoken. A ghost song for your Dutch selection.
  4. Andrew Gold - Spooky Scary Skeletons. Let older children invent a skeleton dance.
  5. Michael Jackson - Thriller. Its effects and video can be too frightening for younger children.
  6. Kesha - Cannibal. The lyrics contain adult themes. I would choose something else for preschoolers or mixed primary groups.
  7. Ran-D, Bassjackers - Zombie (Bassjackers Remix). A high-energy remix; consider whether the pace suits your group.
  8. DD Company - Zombiedans. An invitation to move slowly like zombies together.
  9. David Seville - Witch Doctor. An English-language change of pace with distinctive voices.
  10. Huuxx - Harry Potter. A magical moment between spooky tracks.
  11. DD Company - Grote Groene Griezelmonster. Invite children to create a funny monster movement.
  12. Bertus en Jaapie - Hallo Halloween (Remix). Another Dutch option for your party selection.
  13. Snollebollekes - De Vloer Is Lava. Not specifically a Halloween song, but an energetic finale. Keep dancing on the floor; no climbing on furniture.

A 20-minute Halloween dance activity

Adapt this example to your group:

  • 0–3 minutes: greet each other with a funny monster movement and explain freeze dance.
  • 3–7 minutes: dance to one song using two simple movements.
  • 7–11 minutes: play ghost freeze dance. Everyone freezes when the music stops; nobody is eliminated.
  • 11–15 minutes: invent a monster dance in pairs. Watching is fine too.
  • 15–20 minutes: repeat the favourite song and finish calmly.
