Why games during a children's disco?
🎶 Children love music, but they also want to be challenged.
🕹️ Games provide structure and excitement.
🧡 Even children who prefer not to dance continuously get involved.
🎤 For you as a parent or organizer they provide nice breather moments.
1. Human Musical Chairs (10–13 years)
An interactive twist on the classic musical chairs! Here the ‘chairs’ are the children themselves, who sit in a circle with their legs apart.
🟢 How it works:
- The rest of the children walk around the circle to music.
- Music stops? Quickly jump between someone's legs!
- Two on one spot? Play rock-paper-scissors!
- Each round 'chairs' or players are eliminated until there's one winner.
🎯 Great as an opening game for upper-grade parties or group 8 discos!
2. Balloon Stomp (7–13 years)
Active, hilarious and always a hit! Each child gets a balloon tied to their ankle. Goal: stomp on each other's balloons without your own popping.
🎈 Tips:
- Use punch balloons with elastic – they're sturdy.
- Let children play in teams for extra excitement.
- Make sure there's a safe space without obstacles.
⚠️ Clearly explaining the rules beforehand prevents arguments!
3. Balloon Dance (7–13 years)
A cozy classic full of teamwork and fun. Children dance in pairs or trios with a balloon between their stomachs – without using hands.
🎶 Challenge variations:
- Jumping
- Turning around
- Hands in the air
- Standing on one leg
Let the funniest duos advance to a final where they have to keep the balloon between their heads. 😄
💡 Perfect for laughter and teamwork!

4. Freeze Dance (6–10 years)
Simple but so much fun! As long as the music plays: dance. When the music stops: freeze.
🎤 Even more fun with variations:
- Let the birthday child decide who was 'too late'
- Use different music styles (TikTok, K3, Top 40)
🎉 Ideal as an energizer or interlude!

5. Circle Dance (7–13 years)
The children stand in a circle, one child dances in the middle. The rest copy the dance.
🔁 After half a minute the child in the middle may point to someone else. That way it rotates smoothly and stays fun.
💬 Make it clear that participation is allowed but not mandatory – that way every child feels safe.

6. Little Musician (6–10 years)
A calmer game, perfect for a break during a busy party.
🎼 Rules:
- Everyone sits in a circle.
- One child (the musician) comes up with a movement.
- Another child leaves for a moment and then comes back.
- The group all does the same movement – who is the leader?
🎧 Play soft background music for extra atmosphere.
7. Card Matching (11–13 years)
The classic for a farewell party. Children find their dance partner for a slow moment using half-cards.
🃏 How it works:
- Cut playing cards in two.
- One half for boys, the other for girls (or mix & match).
- Let children find their ‘match’.
- Once everyone has their partner: music on!
💡 Think of songs like “Afscheid nemen bestaat niet” or “Dit pakt niemand ons meer af” for a magical moment.
⚠️ Participation = optional, never mandatory.
