Planning a Pietendisco: music, games and timing

A Pietendisco is a Sinterklaas celebration with music, dancing and short games. Before choosing songs, agree who supervises the children, who plays Piet and whether Sinterklaas will visit.

Build a programme around the children

Start with a familiar song and a simple movement everyone can copy. Alternate dancing with a short game, such as freeze dance or following a rhythm. Let children watch first or take a quiet break. Choose songs and instructions that suit the youngest children present.

An example for a 90-minute celebration

  • 15 minutes: welcome, music and meeting the Pieten.
  • 30 minutes: dancing, singing and short games.
  • 30 minutes: Sinterklaas visits and presents are handed out.
  • 15 minutes: one final dance and time for photos.

This is an example for the whole celebration, not a package duration or promise about what is included. Agree who arranges Sinterklaas and the Pieten. A large group may need more time for presents.

Prepare the venue

Check the space, power, access and sound rules. Discuss any smoke effects with the venue in advance. Keep adults available to supervise, including when parents have a separate gathering. Have drinks and a quiet place ready.

Music and the next step

Use the Sinterklaas playlist for ideas and the party checklist for preparation. Looking for a complete show? The Sinterklaasdisco page explains the show with DJ Blijwin® and Disco Piet. Share your date, venue and group size through the request form.
