Snoepmonster is my Halloween song. Sweets, a monster, and a chorus kids jump into. It is not there to frighten anyone. It is there to make the room shout with laughter.
Play it once the party is already moving. The first ten minutes are for arriving and a song everyone knows. Then Snoepmonster. By then they know the room, and they dare to join.
When does this song work?
It fits a group that can handle a party, roughly ages 6 to 12. Younger children sometimes still find a monster tense. Watch them. If a child does not like it, skip the track. No fuss.
It works in three places:
- A Halloween disco at school or after-school care, as one song in the middle. Not as the only song of the afternoon.
- At home, once the decorations are up and the lights can go a little lower.
- A short dance block, before you go back to songs they already love.
Listen here, and save it so you are not searching on the day.
How to place it in the hour
- Start with a song the whole group knows.
- Do one dance game so everyone loosens up. Ideas are in the favourite games for a kids disco.
- Play Snoepmonster. One singalong is enough. The second time can be louder.
- Continue with the Halloween playlist. Hi Ha Halloween is in there too.
Want it live, with lights and someone who takes the group along? Look at the Halloween kids disco.
Keep it a game
A monster in a song is fun while it stays a game. No scary videos in between, no dark hallway, no surprise from behind. Say it first: this is a sweet monster, and it loves to dance.
Children who do not want to join can watch from the side. The next track often brings them back.
There is also a Snoepmonster for the December present evening in the Netherlands. That is a different version, for later in the year. Every seasonal song is on the music page.
