Is the children's party tomorrow? Start with the location, guest count, food and one manageable activity. Once those are clear, decide whether you can host it yourself or need help.
Five things to arrange first
- Confirm the guests. Check the number and ages of children and a parent or carer's contact number.
- Choose an available place. Clear space at home or confirm the venue. Have a realistic indoor backup for an outdoor party.
- Arrange help. Agree who leads activities and who handles drinks, the door and questions from parents.
- Keep food simple. Ask about allergies and dietary needs and choose food you can organise in time.
- Send the details. Share the start, finish, address and anything children should bring. A clear message matters more than elaborate decorations.
Three activities with little preparation
Freeze dance: play music and pause it. Everyone freezes, perhaps in a pose chosen by the birthday child. No equipment is needed and nobody has to be eliminated.
The secret musician: one child guesses who is leading the movements copied by the circle. It gives the group a quieter moment between dances. Find the full rules in these dance games for children.
Request disco: ask each child for one song beforehand. Check the versions and have the music ready. Children who want to can demonstrate a movement for the others to follow.
A simple 90-minute programme

Allow fifteen minutes for arrival and drinks, twenty for dancing and freeze dance, ten for a break, twenty for the secret musician and requests, and fifteen for a shared finish. Keep the last ten minutes for belongings and pickup.
This is a sample for a party you host yourself. Adapt the length to your group and drop an activity if it feels too busy.
A last-minute party from experience
Marian had organised smaller parties before, but this time Isis's celebration involved thirty children after a year without a party. A large, energetic group made a clear plan especially useful. I was available to help on that occasion, combining dancing, games and familiar music.
That does not mean every party needs a professional. Ask yourself whether you can guide the group, handle interruptions and still enjoy the celebration. An extra adult and a simpler programme may be all you need.
Asking for last-minute help
For a birthday disco, send the date, times, location, ages and group size. Include the town so I can assess travel time too. A last-minute request is only confirmed once availability and arrangements have been agreed.
Request help or send me a WhatsApp message. I am happy to think through what is still possible.
